What if I missed the newborn session?

The birth of a baby is a joyous occasion, and many parents schedule a newborn session while still pregnant. However, life doesn’t always go according to plan, and sometimes clients may miss the window for a newborn photo session.

While newborn photography is typically done within the first two weeks of life, capturing beautiful images of slightly older infants is entirely feasible and can still result in stunning keepsakes for families to cherish.

Embrace the Growth: While newborns are tiny and delicate, older infants bring a different charm to the table. At 2-3 months old, babies have started to develop their own personalities, and their expressions are more animated. We embrace this growth and focus on capturing their budding individuality. Their smiles, curious gazes, and chubby cheeks make for adorable photographs that showcase their emerging personalities.

Alertness: Unlike newborns who tend to sleep through most of the shoot, older babies are more awake and alert. We can engage with them in a way that is impossible with fresh newborns!

Family Interaction: Incorporating family members into the photo session adds depth and emotional connection to the images. I always encourage parents to interact with their baby naturally, whether it’s cuddling, playing peek-a-boo, or showering them with kisses. These genuine moments of love and connection make for heartwarming photographs that will be cherished for years to come.

Patience and Flexibility: Working with older infants requires patience and flexibility. Babies at this age have shorter attention spans and may need more breaks for feeding or soothing. I always adapt to their schedule and mood, and don’t rush the process.

While newborn photography has its own charm, we can still create beautiful images together of your older infant. So, if you miss the window for a newborn session, be reassured that all is not lost – there are still plenty of precious moments waiting to be captured as your baby continues to grow and thrive.

NJ Newborn & Family photographer

I know how important it is to us parents to capture our children just as they are today. No frills or over-the-top props. I specialize in maternity, newborn and family photography with a natural and organic style to achieve just that. I love all things vintage so you will often see me using old crates, quilts, and lace during your session. Time goes by so fast and the little details of babies and children disappear too quickly. I would love the opportunity to capture your memories.
